Connecting the dots between oral health and pregnancy

We are proud to support Healthy Birth Day through the Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation for their work to increase awareness of the importance of sustained dental care throughout pregnancy. In 2021, Healthy Birth Day received a System and Capacity Building Grant of $72,000 to expand educational resources regarding the importance of good oral health care during pregnancy, focusing on those most at risk for stillbirth.

Dr. Kent Downing hopes to grow access to dental care in Marshalltown
Giving Back
Dr. Kent Downing is one of three Iowa dentists who received 2021 educational loan repayment awards from the Fulfilling Iowa’s Need for Dentists (FIND) project, a collaborative public-private partnership. This program engages dentists to establish dental practices in designated Iowa priority counties, and to devote at least 35 percent of their practice to individuals who disproportionately face barriers to access care.

Sharing Smiles Statewide with Assistance Provided by Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation

Delta Dental of Iowa Foundation recognized the important role Iowa nonprofits were going to play in serving the most vulnerable in our communities during this unprecedented time. Area nonprofits – particularly those providing food security and health and wellness services – were going to need additional support since so many Iowans are now self-quarantined, unemployed or furloughed, and children are not in school.
