New Special Health Care Needs Benefit Coming in 2025

Posted on October 15, 2024 in Corporate

Delta Dental of Iowa announced the launch of a new Special Health Care Needs benefit designed to improve access to oral health care for eligible members. This benefit will become standard at no additional cost with all Delta Dental plans starting January 1, 2025.

This new benefit is designed to remove barriers to care for individuals with special health care needs and will cover both children and adults with qualifying conditions. The Special Health Care Needs benefit includes a range of services including unlimited exams, up to four hygiene visits per calendar year, dental case management, and sedation or anesthesia when needed.

“At Delta Dental, our goal is to help all of our members achieve better oral health,” said April Schmaltz, president and CEO of Delta Dental of Iowa. “As a dental leader, we understand that oral health care can be overwhelming for many patients with special health care needs. This new benefit is designed to address the unique needs of our members and ensure that everyone has access to the care they require.”

Beginning in 2025, dentists can enroll their patients in these services. Members with special health care needs such as physical, developmental, mental, sensory, behavioral, cognitive, or emotional impairments can qualify for eligibility under the new benefit to receive appropriate care for their condition.
